Each holiday season, there’s no tradition I love more than heading to the Christmas tree farm to find that perfect tree to chop down & bring home. I’m obsessed with all things relating to the holiday, so clearly, when given the opportunity to borrow Chevrolet’s new Cruze Hatch for the afternoon to head up to Smolak Farms in Andover, MA for a festive afternoon, there’s no way I was turning that down.
Just 30 minutes north of Boston, Regan of @VentureTravelist and I cruised up in the Cruze Hatch to make our way to the farm. It was freezing outside, so you betchya that I immediately turned on those heat seaters.
Luckily, our car was also equipped with a nifty new feature, Apple CarPlay. While Regan drove, I DJ’ed our trip since the CarPlay takes the apps on your phone and displays them in the car’s display screen. Clearly, we were jamming out to Mariah Carey’s “Merry Christmas” album, with a few Justin Bieber “Under the Mistletoe” songs thrown in there via my phone’s iTunes. And even better, rather than trying to figure out the car’s GPS system, I was able to just put the farm’s street address into my Google maps & it popped up on the car’s display screen.
Soon enough, we arrived at Smolak Farms, and since it was early Friday afternoon, we basically had the place to ourselves. Rather than leave the Cruze Hatch at the farm’s country store, we brought it along to where we’d be searching for our tree. I mean, c’mon, you didn’t expect us to haul it all the way back ourselves by foot, right? 🙂
After about a half hour of tree hunting (OK, we took some photos in between), Regan and I found our perfect Christmas trees. She stuck with the traditional six-footer… since I’m obsessed with all things mini, I found myself a baby tree. I might have set it up at my house and declared it as Rory‘s tree… but I guess you’ll never know.
Luckily, the Cruze Hatch’s cargo space is PLENTY big. We were able to fit both Regan’s and my Christmas trees, with room left over.
Now, rather than head home with a bare tree, while cruz’ing, we stopped by Home Depot and Michael’s to pick up lights and ornaments. We (well, probably just me), went a little wild with the amount of ornaments, but hey, when Michael’s offers 50% off ornaments, I can’t help myself. And like I said earlier, our car not only fit Regan’s holiday decor, but my thousands of boxes of ornaments.
Of course, with my Instagram obsession, our Cruze Hatch was like a dream come true. Once I jumped back in the passenger seat, I connected to the car’s wi-fi and posted a photo from our fun afternoon.
