A Taste of Texas in New England

June 12, 2017

Watch Hill, Rhode Island has always been mine and Jeff’s happy place. When we started dating, the quaint seaside village was a place we’d always visit when in Westerly to visit his family. It became such a memorable place for us, we actually ended up getting married at the Watch Hill Chapel.

Right across the street from the Watch Hill Chapel is the beautiful Ocean House…a yellow oceanside hotel that you cannot miss when in the area, not only because of its massive size, its impressive porch and croquet lawn… but also its views of the ocean.

Last week, when Jeff and I were invited to the Ocean House to attend the Farm + Vine Dinner, there was no way we were missing this, even if it required driving down to Watch Hill from Boston.

As part of a chef swap, the Texas-based Relais & Chateaux luxury ranch –  Inn at Dos Brisas – had their team travel to Rhode Island to give us New Englanders a taste of Texas.

Executive Chef Matt Padilla provided us with the MOST amazing four-course meal, all while overlooking the ocean from the Ocean House dining room and paired with some of my favorite wines.

The best part of the meal? How incredibly fresh every single course was… from the housemade agnolotti pasta (AMAZING), to the organic chicken (raised by their own farmers), to the unreal strawberry shortcake dessert… it quickly flew to the top of my ‘best meals’ list.

And while this was just a pop-up dinner at the Ocean House, if you happen to be traveling to Texas (either Austin or Houston), a meal at the Inn at Dos Brisas is surely a can’t-miss.

Meet Robbin

Hi there. I'm Robbin, founder of The New England Life. I'm a publicist-turned-kinda-blogger who is still a publicist. Weird, right? I'm obsessed with historic light houses, mermaids, vintage maps and I think coffee ring stains are beautiful. Check back often as I document my favorite things about New England (& beyond).
