Where to Apple Pick in New England
Apples, fall and New England!
It’s October and you know what that means… apple picking season is here (but only for a few more weeks). I love getting the opportunity to pick apples and until my parents moved to Southern California, I never realized that this was not something everybody got to do. I’m very lucky that I live in New England and have so many opportunities and different farms to pick apples.
Just recently, I went to one of my favorite apple orchards, Honey Pot Hill Orchard. They are always so friendly, have such a wide variety of apples and they even have some pears. From Macintosh, all the way to Honey Crisp…. there is an apple for everyone.
The lovely thing about Honey Pot is they are not far from Nashoba Valley Winery. They do not only have good wine, but also have one of the nicest restaurants. I love taking a trip to Nashoba Valley any time of the year. Now, as for other apple orchards here is a roundup of five other orchards I like in New England.
Russell Orchard in Ipswich, MA is a great orchard. It’s not only because they have lots of apples, but they are also close to Cranes Beach and the Crane Estate. So, you can go apple picking and then spend the afternoon at the beach or the estate.
Reds Apple Farm in Phillipston, MA. It has been around for generations and some of you might have gone apple picking there as a child. This is a warm and lovely family-owned farm that anyone might like to visit.
Of course, one of the most well-known apple orchards in Massachusetts is Smolak Farm. They are in Andover so not far from the Boston area. They have the widest variety of apples in the area.
Another great orchard is in New Hampshire is Gould Hill Farm in Contoocook. They have amazing views, especially during leaf peeping season. So if you want to take a little road trip I say this is a must.
If you want a trip to Connecticut, there is Whittle’s Willows Spring Farm in Mystic. They are a great local family owned farm. You can pick a variety of apples and then if you are looking for more, there are so many great things to do in Mystic. You can do anything from grabbing lunch at Mystic Pizza to going to the Mystic Aquarium, which is fun for all ages.
