While growing up, my family’s home was located in a very wooded area of New England, where it was rare for anyone but our neighbors to drive down our street. We were that people that didn’t lock doors and never thought to set up a security system or camera. I didn’t even own a key to our house.
Now, years later, and now living in mine and my husband’s home, much has changed. I’m very trusting, but Jeff often has to remind to lock the door on the way out.
The biggest change that I anticipate is the arrival of our daughter and that has me now finally realizing why I need to take the extra precautions to make sure my home is safe, especially if I’m home by myself with the baby (and of course, our trusty guard dog, Rory).
Recently, I had a few friends suggest investing in cameras for both the inside and outside of the house, and that’s where I came across Blink, the affordable home security camera which connects to your smartphone.
Once my Blink cameras arrived in the mail, it was pretty easy to set up myself. I made sure to set up the interior camera (both wire-free) in a position that lets me see our entire living room, back door, and part of the kitchen. Jeff would tell you that I placed it there because its Rory’s hang out spot 🙂 and I want to keep an eye on him. For the exterior camera, I made sure to place it in an elevated location, which also provides a view of everyone that walks up to our door. The coolest part? It has night vision, so even at night, I can keep track of what’s going on outside our house.
After the cameras were in position, I was able to login into my Blink smartphone app and could see a live view – both video and still images, depending on the mode. Of course, the next day while at work, I must have checked the camera over 20x, spying on Rory to see what he was up to. Eventually, I’ll set up my push notifications so that I can get alert anytime the camera detects motion, especially for the exterior camera.
Here’s my view from my phone:
Overall, I’m really pleased with both cameras and will most likely invest in a few more before the fall so that I can put in the baby room and other exterior doors.
Thank you Blink for sponsoring this post.
