Over the past few years, I’ve become pretty obsessed with Instagram.
At first, it was a platform I used to share photos of nights out with friends, drinks at brunch, a photo or two of my family’s pups, funny things I saw while living in NYC and so on.
But, when I moved to the west coast, launched a blog, and became passionate about photography again, my Instagram account went from photos taken at 2 am, to photos taken of surfers at 7 am at Pacific Beach.
Ever since transitioning to posting only photos I was super proud of, I noticed that follower # started to grow… and grow… and grow. And with that, came the questions.
I saw you were in San Francisco, where should I stay?
Next weekend I’m heading to Newport, where can we get a good dinner?
And then…
I’m traveling to Charleston, where are some good spots to grab photos?
Noticed you were just in NYC, where was that bar that you got that ‘cocktail in the air’ Insta?
Whoa, where is that spot you found in Scituate? I want to re-create that photo.
At that point, it was like a light bulb went off.
I had this group of friends & family asking for suggestions of what to do & see when traveling to cities I’ve been to… and then I had this other group of friends, family & fellow bloggers asking how they could re-create the photos they saw on my Instagram. And, it was like the two were one in the same. It might sound strange to some people, but often times, when looking for things to do in a city I’ve never been, I’ll do a quick search on Instagram (via hashtags and geotags), and look for those ‘Instagrammable’ moments. (For some, that might be a major eye roll moment, but I’ve come to recognize that’s the world we live in now).
That brings me to the idea of Your Instagrammable City.
While hoping off my commuter ferry one morning, most likely with headphones in my ears, my favorite Pandora station playing, while daydream walking to work, I thought:
Why not create a video series, where we show our favorite ‘Instagrammable’ moments in the cities we often travel to, and simultaneously, make sure these are places we’d normally suggest to our friends?
And from there, that’s how it started.
A quick chat with my videographer Brian, followed by a few hours of brainstorming, a 4-hour shoot and ta-da… our first Your Instagrammable City episode. And why not start in our own beloved Boston?
