Growing up with siblings, it was a constant battle when it came to who got the “good blanket” when hanging on the couch. There’s was always that one blanket that was just better than the rest.
A few months ago, when I had received my first Chappy Wrap blanket, it felt like deja vu… I got home from work, changed into pajamas, walked into our living room to our blanket basket to grab my Chappy Wrap, and it was missing. I look over to the couch and see my husband bundled up in it. If I was still 10 years old, I probably would have battled him for it…instead, after constantly joke-arguing over who got to use it each night for months, we ended up getting another. And luckily, we were recently gifted one for Isla too.
For the second installment of Local New England, I figured Chappy Wrap was the perfect local women-owned business to highlight, especially since I’m obsessed with the brand.
1. I love that Chappy Wrap is a mom + daughter owned business. How did the two of you come up with this idea?
Beth came up with the idea about 12 years ago when she founded the company. Our family had a blanket that turned into a bit of a family heirloom and was passed through generations – Beth and her three sisters grew up with it as their favorite family blanket, and then she passed the blanket on to my brother and me, who grew up loving it just as much. The blanket was super cozy, reversible, extra-large and made from a cotton-blend. It was so well-loved that it became essential to our home and everyone always found comfort in it. When we went to find another blanket like it, we learned that there was nothing on the market even close to the quality, durability, size, warmth and feel of the original one we loved. So Beth set out to make one herself!
2. What differentiates your products from other companies that sell blankets?
Our blankets are very unique to the market because they are woven on a loom and made from a high-quality cotton-blend that makes them super soft and warm, breathable, durable and machine washable! They maintain their soft feel no matter how many times they are washed, so they are great for taking anywhere and everywhere and are made to last a lifetime. We love that people can really integrate them into their lives and bring them along anywhere. They are also oversized and perfect for snuggling on the couch or even covering a Queen bed.
3. Where are a few of your favorite New England spots to bring a Chappy Wrap?
We love taking ours to Cape Cod, where my in-laws have a beach cottage. They come with us to the beach, on the boat and to summer barbecues and bonfires. In the winter, we love throwing one (or four!) in the car for ski weekends up north.
4. You’ve recently launched a few new designs — which ones are your favorite and why?
It is so hard to pick because we’re in love with them all! But a few of our favorites include Classic Yellow Stripe and Brant Point Blues because they are so versatile, classic and timeless and really feel like summer in New England. We also love the new kids’ collection, which features designs in 2 new sizes perfect for little ones, because of the new addition to our family on the way (Christina’s first baby and Beth’s first grandchild)!
5. Future plans for Chappy Wrap that you can share?
More designs will be released later this summer, and then again for the holidays. We’ll definitely be expanding our kids’ collections next year as well!
